Groton Police Arrest New Hampshire Fugitive Wanted for, Armed Robbery, Striking Police Officer

Suspect Arrested After Lengthy Vehicle and Foot Pursuit

GROTON — Chief Donald Palma Jr. reports that the Groton Police Department arrested a New Hampshire fugitive from justice last night who was wanted for armed robbery and striking a police officer. The suspect was caught after a lengthy pursuit, where he placed multiple lives in danger while fleeing from police.

MAURICE DEJESUS, AGE 28, OF NASHUA, N.H. is charged with:

  • Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle
  • Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failing to Stop for a Police Officer
  • Resisting Arrest

DEJESUS is also charged with being a fugitive from justice on an outstanding felony warrant from New Hampshire and has several outstanding felony warrants in Massachusetts.

On Nov. 24, at approximately 9 p.m., Groton officers received an alert to be on the lookout for a stolen vehicle out of Hudson, N.H. Police units from surrounding towns were also looking for the vehicle.

Officer were advised to take caution, as the vehicle was believed to be involved in an armed robbery and had struck a Nashua, N.H. police officer and attempted to run down another earlier in the day.

A short time later, Groton Police Sgt. Jason Goodwin observed the vehicle on Hollis Street. As he attempted to pull over the vehicle, the operator accelerated and refused to stop. Groton officers pursued the vehicle onto Route 119, turning on to Lovers Lane and around the Groton Country Club. The vehicle continued back onto Route 119 east, striking a pole in the vicinity of Augustine Road.

The operator, later identified as DEJESUS, then fled the scene on foot, but was subsequently caught and arrested by Groton officers after a brief foot pursuit.

“During this incident, the operator of the vehicle showed complete disregard for lives and safety of officers and the public, passing into opposite lanes in an attempt to avoid capture,” Chief Palma said. “At one point, he evaded stop sticks placed by Groton officers and narrowly missed a building at the country club. We are thankful no one was injured.”

The incident remains under investigation by Groton, Nashua. N.H. and Hudson, N.H. police. Additional charges from New Hampshire are expected.

DEJESUS was held at the Groton Police Department pending his arraignment in Ayer District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
