*Media Advisory* Arlington Health and Human Services to Hold Forum for Parents: “Marijuana Use and the Adolescent Brain”
ARLINGTON – Arlington’s Director of Health and Human Services, Christine Bongiorno, announces that the Arlington Youth Health & Safety Coalition (AYHSC) will hold a “Marijuana Use and the Adolescent Brain” forum for parents this month.
“This is an important topic we feel parents and guardians will be interested in learning more about,” Bongiorno said. “We encourage parents and guardians to attend the forum and bring with them any questions or concerns.”
WHAT
Recent societal changes have resulted in the decriminalization of recreational marijuana and legality of medicinal marijuana in Massachusetts, but this does not necessarily mean it is safe. Join AYHSC for a discussion about marijuana use and its effects on adolescent brain development at a free forum for parents.
WHEN
Monday, Nov. 16 from 7-8:30 p.m.
WHERE
Ottoson Middle School Cafeteria, 63 Acton St.
WHO
Presenting at the forum will be Dr. Scott Hadland, who will speak about marijuana use and effects on adolescent brain development.
Dr. Hadland is a pediatrician and specialist in adolescent medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and sees patients who are actively seeking treatment in the Adolescent Substance Abuse Program Clinic.
Dr. Hadland has published a number of articles for the medical community and general public on adolescent drug use. Through his work, he has critically examined the available evidence on the effects of marijuana use on youth.
