Rockport Police to Wear Pink Bands on Badges in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

ROCKPORT — Chief John Horvath announces that all members of the Rockport Police Department will wear pink bands on their badges from Oct. 4-Oct. 11 in support of the Massachusetts Coalition of Police (C.O.P.) Awareness Campaign for Breast Cancer.
“Our department is proud to wear these pink bands on our badges in support of breast cancer awareness and MASS C.O.P.’s campaign,” Chief Horvath said. “Breast cancer is a disease that, sadly, touches almost all of our lives in some way and we want to do everything we can to support those who have felt its devastating effects.”
This is MASS C.O.P.’s third annual “Badge Up for Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign”. The pink bands were supplied by Simons Uniforms in Lynn.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.:
- One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.</>
- Each year, it is estimated that more than 40,000 women in the United States will die of breast cancer.
- Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die annually.
