West Newbury Police Arrest Man With 15 Grams of Cocaine

WEST NEWBURY — Chief Lisa Holmes reports that the West Newbury Police Department arrested a man over the weekend who was in possession of 15 grams of cocaine.

RIAN PEREZ, AGE 24, OF LOWELL, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of A Class B Substance (Cocaine) With the Intent to Distribute
  • Unlicensed Operation of A Motor Vehicle
  • Improper Head Lamps

On Saturday, Sept. 19, at approximately 3 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed a motor vehicle traveling over Rocks Village Bridge into West Newbury with green, aftermarket headlights and bright yellow fog lights.

After conducting a motor vehicle stop, the operator, later identified as PEREZ, told the officer he did not have his license. A check with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles indicated he did not have a valid license. PEREZ was then placed under arrest.

During an inventory search of his vehicle, the officer located several bags of narcotics, which a field test confirmed was cocaine. The total amount translated to 15 grams. Police also found $780 in cash in the car.

PEREZ was held at the Middleton House Of Correction on $1,040 cash bail pending his arraignment at Newburyport District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
