Littleton Police Department’s K-9 Unit Completes Training

LITTLETON — Chief Matthew J. King  is pleased to report that the Littleton Police Department’s K-9 unit has finished its first round of training and is now out working in the community.

Patrolman Brian Casey and his partner, K-9 Vojak, completed the Boston Police Academy Canine Training on Aug. 14. They are now well-versed in skills surrounding obedience, tracking and searching of missing persons and suspects, apprehension of suspects, article searches, building searches, agility and handler protection.

The two regularly patrol the town and are available to surrounding communities and members of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (N.E.M.L.E.C.) when a K-9 unit is needed to aid a search or investigation.

Vojak is a 19-month-old German Shepherd. Littleton Police previously had a K-9 team in the 1970s and are excited to bring back the program.

“A K-9 unit can be a vital asset to aiding law enforcement during an emergency situation, especially when we are looking for a missing person or a suspect on the loose,” Chief King said. “Officer Casey and Vojak are a great pair, and I know they will be a valued service to not only Littleton but our surrounding communities.”

Patrolman Casey and Vojak will return to the academy in February to complete advanced training for drug recognition and searches.
