Gloucester Police Welcome Two Academy Graduates

GLOUCESTER — Chief Leonard Campanello is pleased to welcome two officers to the Gloucester Police Department after they completed the 35th MBTA Transit Police Municipal Police Academy this week.

Incoming officers and Gloucester residents Kelly Gossom and Richard Tucker graduated at 11 a.m. at a ceremony on Aug. 26 after a 27-week intensive academy program hosted by the Transit Police.

“Officers Gossom and Tucker, who earned their positions over 11 other finalists, add professionalism and diversity to the Gloucester Police Department,” Chief Campanello said. “We follow a very rigorous protocol when bringing in new officers, where we strive to only hire the best of the best. I am certain these two will live up to that standard and I look forward to working with them.”

The two graduated from Gloucester High School and both hold bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice. They will now enter a 14-week Field Training Officer Program before they are assigned to their shifts.

“Our two new officers will bring a wealth of knowledge to the Gloucester Police Department that will serve our residents well,” said Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken. “Quality policing is a priority for this city to keep our community safe and I am excited to welcome them aboard.”
