Maynard Earns Insurance Premium Credits for Fiscal 2015 through MIIA Rewards Program

MAYNARD — Town Administrator Kevin Sweet is pleased to announce that the town received $14,339 back on its workers compensation and property casualty insurance costs for fiscal 2015.

These credits are applicable toward premiums for the next fiscal year through an incentive program offered by Maynard’s insurance provider, the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA).

The town earned the credits through proactive and voluntary participation in loss prevention and risk management activities throughout the year, conducted in partnership with MIIA.

To keep the community safe and fiscally stronger, Maynard implemented administrative procedures that reduce the risk of accidents and property damage. Local employees also participated in training programs that promote effective management and safe operations. MIIA offers these no-cost programs as a benefit to help member communities reduce their risks as well as insurance premiums.

“Here in Maynard we know it’s important to ensure that our workers are safe by reducing workplace risks,” Town Administrator Sweet said. “The annual free training for employees is also a key component to our success, as it educates our workers on best practices while at the same time saving the town money down the line.”

In fiscal year 2015, MIIA awarded over $2.2 million of premium credits collectively to its membership, resulting in a 13-year total of $24.4 million since the program’s inception.

“Since we launched MIIA’s Rewards incentive program in 2002, our members have worked hard to find innovative ways to mitigate risk, prevent workplace injury, and essentially determine, and lower their own insurance costs,” said Stanley Corcoran, Executive Vice President of MIIA. “We are pleased to return these funds to Maynard and look forward to continuing to build upon our partnership through coordinated risk management activities that help prepare employees, keep residents safe, and save taxpayer dollars.”
