Arlington Robbery Suspect Arrested by Burlington Police

BURLINGTON — Burlington Police Chief Michael R. Kent and Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan are pleased to report that the Burlington Police Department has arrested the suspect wanted in connection with a kidnapping and robbery in Arlington earlier this week.
STEVEN MICHAEL O’BRIEN, AGE 25, OF ARLINGTON, was arrested for shoplifting from a business in Burlington this afternoon. After verifying his identity, Burlington Police immediately became aware of the fact that O’BRIEN was wanted for a June 30 robbery in Arlington and had two other outstanding warrants out of Cambridge District Court.
“This arrest is yet another example of the strong partnerships developed among municipal police departments across the Commonwealth,” Chief Ryan said. “Thanks to the vigilance of Burlington Police, a dangerous felon has been captured.”
O’BRIEN was transported to the Burlington Police Department and then transferred to Arlington Police Custody. He will be held pending his arraignment in Cambridge District Court on Monday.
Chief Kent praised the teamwork and aggressive work of all officers involved in the case.
“I am extremely proud of the way our Burlington Police Officers have handled themselves over what has been an extraordinarly busy week in our community, and thanks to their steadfast dedication to the task at hand, a dangerous offender is off the streets,” Chief Kent said.
O’BRIEN is charged with the following offenses out of Arlington:
- Receiving / Possession Stolen Motor Vehicle
- Kidnapping
- Larceny Over $250 from a Person Over 60
Police believe that O’BRIEN arranged to meet an Arlington man on Craigslist on June 30 and then robbed him.
O’BRIEN has an extensive criminal history and is well known to the Arlington Police Department.
