Georgetown Fire Department Congratulates Graduate from State Academy
GEORGETOWN — Chief Albert Beardsley is pleased to announce the graduation of firefighter and EMT Patrick Brown from the 52nd Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA) Call/Volunteer Firefighter Recruit Training Program.
Graduates were honored during a ceremony on Thursday evening at Pentucket Regional High School.
“The Georgetown Fire Department is extremely proud of Firefighter Brown’s accomplishments,” Chief Beardsley said. “He put in a lot of hours and personal time into this program to make himself a better trained firefighter, which improves the overall quality of our department. We are excited to see him put his training into practice.”
Brown is one of 40 graduates from 21 fire departments throughout the Commonwealth to be graduating from the program, designed to allow local call and volunteer firefighters from across the state to receive formal and consistent training from certified fire instructors from the MFA.
Call firefighters began their training in late-January, meeting twice a week during the evening and often on the weekend. Through more than 240 hours of both classroom and hands-on training, firefighters learned the basic skills they need to respond to fires including how to contain and control them. Students covered subjects including public fire education, hazardous material incident mitigation, flammable liquids, stress management, firefighter self-rescue, and vehicle extrication.
Firefighter Brown graduated with a certification at the Hazmat First Responder Operational Level and will be certified to the level of Fighterfighter I/II. He joins more than two dozen of Georgetown’s 35 call firefighters who have attained this nationally recognized status.
