West Newbury Police Promote Summer Roadway Safety
WEST NEWBURY — Chief Lisa A. Holmes and the West Newbury Police Department are teaming up with the Massachusetts Highway Safety Division to help keep everyone safe on the roadways this summer.
As everyone knows, the summer months bring an influx of people to the roads, sidewalks and on bicycles, making traffic and safety regulations more important than ever.
Chief Holmes reminds motorists and pedestrians of the following:
Put your smartphone away! This applies to drivers and pedestrians alike. Nobody on the roadways should have their head buried in a cell phone.
Always wear your seat belt. Seat belts save lives!
Two hands on the wheel, two eyes on the road. Avoid distractions — phone conversations, grooming, eating, text messages, and taking selfies can wait!
“We all know that texting and other forms of distracted driving are dangerous habits,” Chief Holmes said. “Especially during these busy summer months, the West Newbury Police Department encourages you and your loved ones to put down your phone or other distractions while driving. Common sense saves lives!”
The Highway Safety Division has put together YouTube videos to remind drivers to avoid distracted driving and to always wear their safety belts:
Stay safe!
