Burlington Fire Department Battles Simultaneous Fires on Wednesday

Brush, Garage Fires Keep Department Busy During Dry Week

BURLINGTON — Fire Chief Steve Yetman reports that the Burlington Fire Department successfully battled simultaneous fires yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 3:55 pm the Billerica Fire Department requested Burlington Forestry One to respond to the area of the Burlington Gun Club to assist in fighting a brush fire. Upon arrival, firefighters determined that the fire was going to require additional resources. Burlington Engine one responded to Francis Wyman Road with Shift Commander Scott Carpenter to assist. Crews, working with four BIllerica fire engines, battled the fire from multiple fronts, cutting it off in a ring and eventually extinguishing the blaze.

While this was going on, a 911 caller reported a garage on fire at 3 Arborwood Drive in Burlington. Burlington Engine 2 arrived within minutes and found a heavy smoke condition coming from the garage. Other units cleared from the brush fire and arrived to help, including Shift Commander Carpenter. Working with the assistance of a Woburn engine arriving for mutual aid, crews stopped the fire from spreading, saving the home from destruction.

“Fire officers like Scott Carpenter set the standard in our business,” Chief Yetman said. “Our crews were prepared yesterday, and when multiple fires broke out at the same time, they were ready, stopping a large brush fire and saving a family’s home. Overall, a job well-done.”

The causes of the fires remain under investigation. No injuries were reported.
