Armstrong Ambulance Employees Earn National Stars of Life Awards

ARLINGTON — Armstrong Ambulance Service Inc. announces that two of its employees were recognized nationally last month through the American Ambulance Association’s 2015 Stars of Life celebration.

The annual program identifies and honors the dedication of ambulance service professionals as representatives or ambassadors in the industry. Paramedics, emergency medical technicians, dispatchers, customer service representatives and other operations personnel are all eligible for nomination.

This year, Armstrong’s EMTs Jeff Scott and Rachael Biggins earned the award.

“Armstrong Ambulance is proud to have both Jeff and Rachel as integral members of our team,” said Armstrong CEO Richard Raymond. “Their unwavering commitment to go above and beyond their assigned duties to help all those in need make them the ideal recipients for this award.”

Scott and Biggins were brought to Washington from April 13-15 to participate in a series of celebratory events as a thank you for their service and sacrifice. They also received medals at a ceremony on April 15.

Scott’s EMT roots run deep. He started his emergency medical services career 20 years ago as a chair car driver, then worked in the field as an EMT for the following 10 years. For almost five years, Scott has served as a dispatch manager.

In his multi-faceted role, Scott is responsible for coordinating and managing 911, Advanced Life Support, Basic Life Support and chair car calls in a busy, 24/7 Massachusetts certified Emergency 911 dispatch center. He also takes the lead on training all new dispatchers as they acclimate into their role, and continues educating his colleagues on the constantly changing systems, processes and protocols.

“It’s an honor to receive recognition from American Ambulance Association through the Stars of Life award,” Scott said. “As and EMT and dispatch manager, I’ve enjoyed helping others over the years and training colleagues to excel in the field.”

RACHAEL BIGGINS

It is no surprise that EMT Biggins is a Star of Life recipient as she epitomizes compassionate care and is devoted to her role as an EMT.

Biggins has been an EMT at Armstrong for five years. She embodies a commitment to excellence, which is apparent in the pride she takes in all responsibilities — from cleaning her truck and cataloging supplies to tending to all patients’ needs. She also has a strong willingness to learn and is eager to listen and gain what she can from every call.

“If I can provide comfort and care to even one person a day, that’s a great feeling,” Biggins said. “I’d like to thank Armstrong Ambulance and the American Ambulance Association for this huge honor. I’d also like to acknowledge my colleagues, whose incredible daily efforts deserve recognition.”
