Saugus Police Arrest Man For Breaking and Entering

SAUGUS — Chief Domenic J. DiMella is praising the strong teamwork between the Patrol and Investigative Divisions of Saugus Police Department after the successful arrest of a breaking and entering suspect.

CRAIG MITCHELL, AGE 39, OF REVERE was arrested Thursday for allegedly breaking into a residence on Vine Street in Saugus on March 26.

Patrol units were dispatched to the residence on the afternoon of March 26 and found evidence that the home appeared to have been entered by a stranger, including a broken window and damage to the front door.  Residents reported that several pieces of jewelry and some cash were missing.

During an initial walk-through of the residence, detectives discovered what appeared to be blood on the blinds of the broken window, on the inside handle of a storm door, and on the handle of the interior door that had been damaged.  Detectives also lifted shoe impressions and fingerprints, which were matched to MITCHELL through a computer database.

Police discovered MITCHELL hiding in his girlfriend’s closet at the Saugus Commons apartment complex after speaking with residents who reported seeing him there recently.

“I would like to applaud the outstanding police work of the Saugus Police Department and the State Police Crime Scene Services for their hard work,” Chief DiMella said.  “This is an example of an excellent investigation that ultimately led to a successful arrest of the suspect and peace of mind for the victims in the case.”

MITCHELL is charged with breaking and entering, larceny, and malicious destruction of property.  He will be arraigned Friday in Lynn District Court.
