Third Time’s a Charm: Concord Police Arrest Alleged Gym Credit Card Thief After He Allegedly Came Back to Gym for Third Time

Gym Employees Were On the Lookout, Called Police Immediately

CONCORD — Police Chief Joseph O’Connor is pleased to report that the Concord Police Department, just hours after seeking the public’s help in locating an alleged thief, arrested a suspect.

PABLO RAFAEL RIVERA, AGE 32, OF WORCESTER was arrested after employees at the Beede Center Gym, located on Walden Street near Concord-Carlisle High School, recognized him as the man who allegedly walked into the gym on two previous instances and walked out with credit and debit cards belonging to gym patrons. When he arrived today, for a third time, employees were ready, and they called police.

“This case is a clear example of the effectiveness of the Concord Police working together with the community,” Chief O’Connor said. “I am pleased that the employees maintained a high degree of vigilance and called police immediately upon this suspect’s return.”

RIVERA had, in his possession, an American Express card belonging to one of the victims of his alleged theft.

On Feb. 11 and again on Feb. 19, Concord Police alledge that RIVERA entered the Beede Center. On Feb. 11, he allegedly stole a victim’s Citizen’s Bank debit card, located the personal identification number, and withdrew more than $3,000 from ATMs in Concord and Acton. He also went to jewelry stores in Leominster and purchased more than $8,000 worth of merchandise. On Feb. 19, he again came into the gym, and this time stole an American Express Card, using it at multiple stores in the Natick Mall and on Newbury Street in Boston.

RIVERA faces 27 charges.

From the Feb. 11 incident, he is charged with:

  • Larceny from a Building
  • Laceny over $250
  • Identity Fraud (Seven Counts)
  • Receiving Stolen Property Under $250
  • Attempt to Commit a Crime (Five Counts)

From the Feb. 19 incident, he is charged with:

  • Larceny over $250
  • Larceny of a Credit Card
  • Receiving Money Improperly from a Credit Card, Under $250 (Five Counts)
  • Identity Fraud (Four Counts)

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
