Photos: Ipswich Police Department Hosts Annual “Polar Express” Movie Night Fundraiser
IPSWICH — Police Chief Paul A. Nikas is pleased to report that The Ipswich Police Department’s Community Resource Unit held its annual “Polar Express” movie night at the Ipswich High School Performing Arts Center on Friday, Dec. 12. Members of the police department have been happily volunteering their time for this wonderful community event for the past five years.
“We had a great turnout this year! Our officers always look forward to the annual Polar Express night, and we had a great time giving out treats and prizes to the kids,” said Ipswich Police Sergeant Eric Copithorne, who helped organize the program.
Officers were on hand to give out free popcorn and hot chocolate at intermission. After the movie, the police department raffled off prizes, including toys and games for the kids in attendance. This year, nearly 150 people attended, and while the event was free, over $300 in donations were raised to benefit Ipswich Caring.
“We always enjoy the chance to interact with the children in our community. Our annual Movie Night is a fun event that we look forward to every year that also allows people to give generously to an extremely worthwhile cause in Ipswich,” Chief Nikas said,
Ipswich Caring is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization whose mission is to give assistance to Ipswich families living in financial need. It runs a holiday program to coordinate the purchase and distribution of toys, clothing and food to Ipswich families, as well as baked goods to disabled and senior residents. Financial donations can be mailed or brought directly to the First National Bank at 31 Market Street in Ipswich.
