Georgetown Firefighters Collecting Toys for Children
GEORGETOWN — Chief Albert B Beardsley reports that the Georgetown Fire Department has been working hard collecting toys throughout the past month, but it is not too late to donate! You can support the Georgetown Fire Department and Toys for Tots by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to the public safety building, or any number of drop off locations around town, through Dec. 19.
“Every child deserves to open a present on Christmas morning, and Toys for Tots supports that mission,” said Deputy Fire Chief Rusty Ricker, who coordinates the effort in Georgetown. “Please donate generously!”
This is the 15th annual Georgetown Fire Department Toy Drive to benefit Toys for Tots.
The annual Santa Tour, pictured above, had firefighters and friends traveling for 9 1/2 hours through 70 miles of roads in Georgetown, collecting an amazing 2,175 toys!
Chief Beardsley, the Fire Chaplain, Fire Explorers, friends and families were assisting as well, collecting and counting toys. Driving through every street in town, the popular Santa Tour event brought Santa and his sleigh through town collecting toys for local children in need. This event helps the town get into the holiday spirit every year, while contributing to an important cause.
Those interested in donating can find several convenient drop offs around town, including Town Hall on Library Street, the Peabody Library on Maple Street, The Spot restaurant on West Main Street, the Georgetown Building Supply on East Main Street, and the Public Safety Building on Central Street, in both Police and Fire Department lobbies.
On Saturday, December 13, Firefighters will be joined by the Honorable Few Marine Corps League Detachment 1302 at the annual Stuff the Sleigh event, held at Georgetown Building Supply, 103 East Main St.
All are welcome — the event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
If you have any questions, please contact Deputy Ricker at rricker@georgetownma.gov.
