Maynard Firefighters Battle Apartment Fire Monday Afternoon
One Treated for Minor Smoke Inhalation
MAYNARD — Fire Chief Anthony Stowers reports that the Maynard Fire Department battled a small apartment fire on Monday afternoon. There were no injuries, but one resident was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
A resident came to the fire station at 1:45 p.m. Monday reporting that alarms were sounding at 27 Butler Ave. Fire crews were dispatched and found no smoke condition on arrival. However, when crews gained access to Unit 1, they had a very heavy smoke condition and called in a working fire response.
Because of the heavy smoke condition the area of origin was not easily determined, and a second alarm was struck as a precaution.
Crews found and extinguished the fire and the incident was called under control at 2:19 p.m. The fire investigation revealed that combustible items were placed too close to a wall mounted heating unit. This condition led to the fire which was contained to the unit of origin.
The building owner was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene but declined transportation to the hospital.
The Maynard Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from Acton, Stow, Concord and Sudbury as well as the Maynard Police Department.
