The Wait and Comedian Mike Prior to Play Benefit Show to Benefit the Arlington Food Pantry

ARLINGTON — The Arlington Department of Health and Human Services announces that tickets are on sale now for The Wait concert, with all funds raised for the Arlington Food Pantry.

Comedian Mike Prior will open at the event on Sunday, October 26, at 3 p.m. at The Regent Theatre, 7 Medford Street, Arlington.

The town of Arlington, as well as the Housing Corporation of Arlington and a coalition of churches, organized the event and invited local acts The Wait and Mike Prior, both of whom refused to take payment after hearing about the purpose of the concert. The funds will be instrumental as the Food Pantry of Arlington is seeking to open a second location in mid-November at 117 Broadway.

Concertgoers can enjoy some great entertainment while they support their food pantry. The Wait is a local, original rock and roll band founded in 1992. They have headlined clubs around Boston, Maine, Tennessee, and beyond. They have also been played on MTV and received glowing reviews from reporters such as Steve Morse, writing for The Boston Globe.

Comedian Mike Prior, a graduate of Arlington High School, has toured with Weird Al Yankovic and Randy Travis, among others. He was been featured on Comedy Central and appeared in commercials for the New England Aquarium and Boston Center for the Arts.

The Housing Corporation of Arlington recently purchased the location at 117 Broadway and with the accessibility, ease of public transportation and parking it seemed designed for the Food Pantry’s expansion.  “We were talking to other potential tenants, but this spot used to be a diner with a walk-in refrigerator and freezer and we just thought it would be perfect for the food pantry,” said Pam Hallett, Executive Director, Housing Corporation of Arlington. “Hunger is a crisis that affects the entire community, especially elders and children, and we are proud to partner with the Town and this amazing interfaith coalition to help the Food Pantry open a second location.”

The Arlington Food Pantry, run by the town of Arlington, strives to provide food to every Arlington resident in need with a goal to end hunger in town. The Arlington Food Pantry is entirely volunteer-run and entirely financially subsidized by the generosity of local donors. The original site is located in the Church of Our Savior, 21 Marathon Street.

“The Arlington Food Pantry seeks to end hunger in Arlington, and it can only do that with the help and generosity of volunteers and donors who keep it running every day,” said Christine Bongiorno, Director of Health and Human Services for Arlington. “Please come support the Food Pantry at this afternoon of music and laughter!”
