Georgetown Firefighters to Wear Pink Duty Shirts in October for Breast Cancer Awareness

GEORGETOWN — October is National Fire Prevention Prevention Month, but it’s also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So, Fire Chief Albert B. Beardsley announces each of his firefighters will be sporting pink duty shirts all month long to help raise awareness about this terrible disease that affects nearly 1 in 8 women and about 250,000 more people each year.

“The awareness and early detection of Breast Cancer is something everyone should be conscious about,” Chief Beardsley said. “Georgetown Firefighters are proud to wear pink this month to raise awareness about a disease that affects so many people in our lives.”

Statistics by the National Cancer Institute support that when breast cancer is detected early, in the localized stage, the 5-year survival rate is 98 percent.

The firefighters have been outfitted with pink t-shirts and pink polo-style shirts to wear on duty during the month of October.

The firefighters wore similar shirts last year to support breast cancer awareness. Below, please find photos for editorial use, Courtesy of the Georgetown Fire Department.
