A Ludlow Police Department lieutenant who says he got addicted to drugs after surgery, is facing criminal charges and was suspended without pay this week for allegedly stealing drug from the department’s evidence lockup.
According to the Associated Press, Lieutenant Thomas Foye was suspended with pay in August after he was arrested. He was indicted by a grand jury last week, and the town’s Selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday evening to strip his pay.
Court documents state that video footage captures the 49-year-old, 25-year police veteran, entering the drug locker at the police station and grab and open evidence bags. He has been indicted on charges of tampering with evidence, cocaine possession, and theft.
He made a brief statement at Tuesday’s meeting, thanking the board for their consideration and saying he ‘‘went into surgery a hero and came out a drug addict.’’
It is a sad story all around, with no winners.
