Bedford Named One of the Safest Communities in Massachusetts

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family, and with so many thriving cities and towns here, it was a special honor today when the Town of Bedford was named one of the 10 safest places to live in Massachusetts, by Movoto Real Estate.

“The Bedford Police Department works every day to make sure that the people of this great town live in a place that’s safe, comfortable, and welcoming,” said Police Chief Robert Bongiorno. “That said, we will never rest contentedly. This honor only drives us to work even harder to make sure Bedford stays or climbs in the conversation about the safest communities in Massachusetts.”

Chief Bongiorno also noted that it takes much more than just police work to create one of the safest communities in Massachusetts. He pointed out the residents, schools, and town officials who all contribute to the quality of life in Bedford.

Movoto Real Estate looked at 2012 crime statistics in the Bay State, and noted that the town only reported 83 crimes that year, and only 7 of those were violent crimes.  That was good enough to make Bedford the 10th safest community in Massachusetts. The others in the top 10 included, in order from No. 1: Sudbury, Weston, Norfolk, Franklin, Hopkinton, Duxbury, Holden, Shrewsbury, and Wayland.

“Just 15 miles northwest of Boston, Bedford has all the charm of a historic small town,” Movoto reporter Natalie Grigson wrote in her feature naming the 10 safest communities. “Our No. 10 town seems to have it all; everything except crime, that is.”
