Two Westport, Mass. firefighter was injured when they fell off a roof while fighting a chimney fire, according to FireRescue1.com.
Turn to 10 reported that firefighter Steven Lopes, 47, remains at an area hospital in critical condition, while the second firefighter, identified as Robert Manchester, was taken to a hospital and was treated and released.
Lopes underwent surgery Friday morning for “multiple trauma injuries” from the 30-foot fall, according to reports.
Fire officials said that there appeared to be icy conditions on the roof, causing the two firefighters to call.
Lopes is known in the South Coast for his “Portuguese Fireman” comedy act, and he is known as a funnyman and all-around good guy, according to his coworkers. He is a married father of two.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Firefighter Lopes and his family, as well as to Firefighter Manchester. We wish them a speedy recovery.
