RYE — It is with deep regret that the members of Rye Fire Rescue announce the passing of Lt. Charles Gallant. Chuck was a 20-year veteran of the Rye Fire Rescue.
He passed away on Dec. 15, 2023 at home after working an overtime shift. Chuck dedicated his career to helping others throughout the New Hampshire Seacoast, not only by responding to emergencies in Rye but also volunteering countless hours with the Rye Toy Bank, and Muscular Dystrophy Association, serving as the Local 4411 Union President, and so much more.
In 2014 he was awarded the Paul W. Sypek Medal of Valor, which is given to a first responder for conspicuous bravery at extreme risk of life, for assisting in the rescue of a brother firefighter at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
Rye Fire Rescue extends its deepest condolences to Lt. Gallant’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time, share in the grief of losing an exceptional individual and express gratitude for his years of service and sacrifice.
Details regarding memorial services and tributes will be shared in the coming days.
