STOW – Chief John P. Benoit reports that the Stow Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Sunday night.
On Sunday, June 25 at 8:24 p.m., Stow Fire responded to 7 Conant Drive for a report of a home that was struck by lightning. Stow Engine 14, Engine 12, Tanker 11, Engine 15 and Rescue 17 responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke showing from the roof of the home, and a working fire assignment was requested.
Maynard Fire, Bolton Fire, and Professional EMS responded to the scene to provide mutual aid, water, and rehab. Acton Fire provided station coverage.
Crews deployed handlines to find the hidden fire and check for extension. Once the scene was under control, crews assisted the homeowner with clearing debris. The scene was cleared at about 10 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
The fire had little time to spread past the area of origin because the homeowner called 911 immediately. Property damage was limited and the owner can remain in the home while repairs are being completed.
An investigation determined the fire was caused by a lightning strike during a fast-moving storm.
“Get out, and stay out,” said Chief Benoit. “Any time your alarms go off, or you see smoke or fire the safety thing to do is to get out of the building, closing doors behind you as you go.”
