Stow Fire Department Responds to Grill Fire Outside Home

STOW – Chief John P. Benoit reports that the Stow Fire Department responded to a grill fire outside of a home on Saturday night.

STOW – Chief John P. Benoit reports that the Stow Fire Department responded to a grill fire outside of a home on Saturday night.

On Saturday, May 28 at 7:40 p.m., Stow Fire responded to 11 Hale Road for a report of an active grill fire that extended to a shed and was approaching a nearby home. Stow Fire Department Engine 14, Engine 12, and Rescue 17 responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire that was extinguished by homeowners with an extinguisher and nearby garden hoses.

Maynard Fire, Bolton Fire, Hudson Fire, and Professional EMS responded as well and were released back to their towns.

Stow Fire Department Engine 14 deployed a single handline and extinguished the remaining fire and cooled hotspots. The scene was cleared at approximately 8:40 p.m.

Because of the quick thinking of the neighbors and homeowners to use fire extinguishers, the property damage was limited and the damage is estimated to be approximately $5,000. No injuries were reported.

Stow Fire Department conducted a cause and origin investigation. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.

“Fire extinguishers are low-cost and can be used by anyone, said Chief Benoit. “Pull the pin, aim at the base of the fire, squeeze the trigger and sweep back and forth.”
