CHELMSFORD – Chief James Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department and Cops for Kids with Cancer presented a check to a Chelmsford family with a child battling cancer.
On Monday, Feb. 20, the family of Wyatt Miethe, who has been battling cancer for two-and-a-half years, accepted a $5,000 check from Cops for Kids with Cancer thanks to the family being sponsored by Chelmsford Police.
The check was presented at the Chelmsford Police Department in a brief ceremony that was organized by Chelmsford School Resource Officer Ashley Rokas and Lt. Gary Hannagan, who is on the board of directors for Cops for Kids with Cancer.
Cops for Kids with Cancer is a non-profit organization that provides funds to families across New England who have children battling cancer. The organization now provides checks to eight families per month across New England.
Funds from Cops for Kids with Cancer can be used for anything, and are meant to help families fill the many gaps in finances that a cancer diagnoses can create. Funds can be used to help with medical bills, or more routine costs such as transportation or household needs that can often be overlooked when medical bills pile up.
Any police department in New England can sponsor a family with a child battling cancer.
“I’m grateful to Cops for Kids with Cancer for the wonderful support they provide to families across New England, and in particular for the support they have provided to this family in our Chelmsford community,” said Chief Spinney.
“Cops for Kids with Cancer is doing amazing things throughout New England. The financial impact that families experience while caring for their loved ones is unexplainable. Cops for Kids with Cancer is making a difference and I am honored to be a part of their vision,” said Lt. Gary Hannagan. “There is nothing more rewarding, for me, than to spend a few minutes with these warriors. I am always humbled by their personalities and ability to keep a positive attitude throughout their treatments.”
