BELMONT — Fire Chief David DeStefano reports that the Belmont Fire Department responded to a home fire Wednesday night on Belmont Street.

Fire crews were dispatched after a 911 call came in at 8:43 p.m. When crews arrived, heavy fire was coming from the top floor. The incident commander immediately struck a second alarm.

The fire was brought under control around 10 p.m.

There were no injuries. Five tenants have been displaced. The American Red Cross has been brought in to work with those displaced.

Firefighters from Cambridge, Watertown, Waltham and Arlington provided mutual aid. Station coverage was provided by Lexington and Somerville.

The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Belmont Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
