LOWELL — Acting Superintendent Barry Golner and the Lowell Police Department are pleased to share that the Department held its second annual Youth Outreach Day on Wednesday with support from law enforcement and community partners.
The Chelsea Police Department sent its ice cream truck, Manchester, N.H., Police sent its comfort pony and equestrian unit, and the Massachusetts National Guard provided inflatable games for kids.
The National Park Service Police provided a children’s toy police cruiser that youth were able to drive around the event, and UMass Lowell Police, and the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office had vehicles and officers on hand. The Sheriff’s Office also provided an antique wagon designed for children to play in.
Grant funding from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Shannon Community Safety Initiative was used to provide additional games. The Lowell Police Superior Officer’s Union provided raffle prizes.
“I want to thank all of our law enforcement and community partners who helped us make Youth Outreach Day a success again this year, in particular DCU, which generously provides us with an annual donation for community events and enables us to provide free pizza and ice cream,” said Interim Superintendent Golner. “Our work to foster positive interactions between law enforcement and youth continues, and events like this make forming those connections fun for both police and kids.”
