Salem Police, State Police Bomb Squad Investigate Suspicious Devices Found in Vehicle During Traffic Stop

SALEM, New Hampshire — Chief Joel Dolan reports the Salem Police Department evacuated local businesses after police found what are believed to be pipe bombs in a vehicle during a traffic stop Friday night.

SALEM, New Hampshire — Chief Joel Dolan reports the Salem Police Department evacuated local businesses after police found what are believed to be pipe bombs in a vehicle during a traffic stop Friday night.

At approximately 5:20 p.m., Salem Police performed a motor vehicle stop on Pelham Road across the Red Roof Inn after it was observed that the vehicle’s registration was expired. During the initial investigation, police discovered what are believed to be three pipe bombs in the car.

The New Hampshire State Police Bomb Squad were called in to assist with the investigation. Part of Pelham Road, including Exit 2 off of I-93, were closed off during the investigation and have since reopened.

Nearby businesses on Northeastern Boulevard were evacuated out of an abundance of caution. No one was injured. 

Two individuals have been taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.
