Stoneham Police Respond to Bomb Threat at High School

STONEHAM — Chief James McIntyre reports that the Stoneham Police Department is investigating an automated telephone bomb threat that was made against the high school today.

At approximately 8:11 a.m., police received a call from the principal of Stoneham High School, who reported that an automated message had been left on a staff member’s voicemail.

Stoneham Police and Fire responded to the high school, located on Franklin Street. After assessing the content of the recorded message with school administration, the building was placed in lock-down following guidelines recommended by the NEMLEC School Threat Assessment Response System and the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad.

After a search of the interior and exterior of the building, officials determined the threat was not credible. The school was released from lock-down and classes resumed for the day. No one was injured.

Stoneham Police are aware that threats were made against other Massachusetts schools today.
“We are actively investigating this incident and whether or not it is related to other threats that were made in various communities today,” Chief McIntyre said. “Thanks to the swift action of responders and school staff, we were able to quickly determine that this threat was not credible.”

Chief McIntyre would like to thank the students, faculty and staff for their patience and cooperation during the search this morning.

The Stoneham Police Department has forwarded all relevant information about today’s threat to the Massachusetts State Police. Municipal and State Police are working with the Commonwealth Fusion Center to compile intelligence and other information.
