Dunstable Police Warn Community of Recent Motor Vehicle Break-ins, Provide Safety Tips

DUNSTABLE — Chief James G. Downes III and the Dunstable Police Department are urging residents to secure their vehicles and belongings following numerous thefts from motor vehicles in town and surrounding communities over the last several days.

Officials believe that this recent string of motor vehicle break-ins may be the work of one group.

On Wednesday, April 6, two vehicles had their windows smashed in at Larter Field in Dunstable. A purse and its contents was stolen from each of the vehicles.

In order to prevent thefts from a motor vehicle, police urge citizens to always lock their vehicles, even if it is in your driveway, and to never leave belongings, especially those of value, in the car or in plain view. 

“Residents should always lock their vehicles, even if it is parked in what appears to be a secure location,” Chief Downes said. “Always be sure to remove valuables or store them out of sight to deter thieves from targeting your vehicle. We have seen a significant number of motor vehicle break-ins in the area and encourage residents to be vigilant.”

Dunstable Police will have an increased presence throughout the community, but advise residents to be proactive in protecting their belongings.
