Andover Police Respond to Road Rage Incident Involving a Firearm
ANDOVER — Police Chief Patrick Keefe reports that the Andover Police Department arrested a man and will summons another after a road rage incident occurred in a parking lot on North Main Street this morning.
MICHAEL MCCULLOM, AGE 51, OF ANDOVER is charged with Assault and Battery and Assault With a Dangerous Weapon (Firearm).
A 51-year-old male from North Andover will be summonsed to Lawrence District Court for Assault and Battery and Operating a Motor Vehicle With a Suspended License.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., dispatch received a call from a resident of Poor Street who reported that a physical altercation was taking place at the 354 North Main St. parking lot. Police were dispatched to the scene and, upon arrival, witnessed two men yelling at each other.
According to police, MCCULLOM was driving on Lowell Street and attempting to turn onto North Main Street. At the same time, the other male was operating a snow plow traveling in the opposite direction and also attempted to turn onto North Main Street. The two nearly crashed into each other. MCCULLOM then followed the plow driver into the North Main Street parking lot and the two had a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical altercation where MCCULLOM pulled out an unloaded firearm.
MCCULLOM was arrested on scene and arraigned at Lawrence District Court today. He is scheduled to have a dangerousness hearing on Thursday Dec. 31.
“We understand that these road conditions can be very frustrating for drivers, but this type of behavior is never acceptable,” Chief Keefe said. “Please be patient while driving and be sure to leave extra time so you can safely arrive at your destination.”
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
