Stoneham Police Remind Residents to Secure Vehicles, Belongings Following Numerous Motor Vehicle Break-ins

STONEHAM – Chief James McIntyre reports that the Stoneham Police Department has responded to 13 motor vehicle break-ins this week and is reminding residents to always lock their vehicles and secure their belongings to prevent theft this holiday season.

According to Stoneham Police, cars were broken into overnight and in all cases the vehicles’ doors were left unlocked. Generally, items like loose change and charging cords were taken, but in other cases an iPod and a dashboard camera were stolen.

With the holidays around the corner, the police department reminds the community to always lock their vehicles and to never leave their belongings, especially those of value, in the car or in plain view. If the items need to be in the vehicle, secure them in the trunk, locked and out of sight.

Stoneham Police have an increased presence throughout the community, but advise citizens to be proactive in protecting their belongings.

“Unfortunately, we see an increase in this type of theft during the holidays,” Chief McIntyre said. “In order to ensure the holiday is enjoyable, we strongly urge residents to take the simple step of locking their vehicles and securing belongings to prevent themselves from becoming a target of one of these crimes.”
