Dunstable Police Department Investigating Motor Vehicle Crash

Single-Vehicle Crash Injured 17-Year-Old Driver

DUNSTABLE — Police Chief James G. Downes III reports that the Dunstable Police Department is investigating a Friday afternoon crash that left a 17-year-old driver injured.

Dunstable Police were called to the area of 300 Hollis St. at approximatley 2 p.m. Friday for a report of a white pickup truck that had crashed into a tree. Upon arrival, officers found the 1999 Ford F-150 ablaze.

Officers were able to put out the flames with handheld fire extinguishers. The Dunstable and Pepperell Fire Departments arrived shortly afterward and performed an extrication procedure to free the driver, a 17-year-old Nashua girl.

The driver was taken by a medical helicopter to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. The extent of her injuries was not known.

A passenger, a juvenile female from New Hampshire, declined medical treatment at the scene.

The crash is under investigation by the Dunstable Police Department, with the assistance of the Groton Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit. Trinity Ambulance also assisted at the scene, as well as Groton and Pepperell Police.

The roadway was closed for several hours after the crash and during the investigation.

“Our officers were able to respond quickly to the scene and put out the flames, preventing further injuries to the driver,” Chief Downes said. “I am proud of the hard work and dedication of our officers and grateful to our neighboring departments for their assistance on Friday.”

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor, but investigators are looking into whether or not speed played a role in the crash.
