Arlington Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Incident

ARLINGTON — Police Chief Frederick Ryan reports that the Arlington Police Department is investigating a roadway incident that claimed the life of an Arlington woman as she walked across the street.

On Saturday, at 9:20 p.m., Arlington Police and Fire units were dispatched to the area of 1367 Massachusetts Ave. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

The victim sustained head trauma and was immediately attended to by first responders. She was taken by Armstrong Ambulance paramedics to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, where she later died.

The victim is identified as Helen Doyle, age 77.

The operator of the 2009 Honda Civic that struck the victim, a 76-year-old Brookline woman, remained at the scene and was interviewed by Arlington Police investigators.

A preliminary investigation by the Arlington Police Department indicates that the victim was attempting to cross Massachusetts Avenue approximately 250 feet from the intersection with Park Avenue and was not walking in a crosswalk. No charges have been filed against the driver.

“This is a tragic incident involving the loss of life in our community,” Chief Ryan said. “On behalf of the entire community, I offer my sincere condolences to the victim’s family. My heart goes out to them during this extremely difficult time.”

The incident remains under investigation by the Arlington Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
