Newburyport Fire Department Receives $16,696.48 State Grant to Improve Safety Equipment

NEWBURYPORT — Fire Chief Stephen Bradbury is pleased to share that the Newburyport Fire Department was awarded a $16,696.48 grant through the Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program, administered by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Department of Fire Services (DFS).

The funding has supported the purchase of safety equipment designed to enhance firefighter protection, operational readiness, and emergency response capabilities.

The Newburyport Fire Department will use the funding to purchase lifting air bags and vehicle stabilization struts. These items will allow firefighters to respond more safely and effectively to incidents in the community.

The grant received by Newburyport was among $5 million in grants provided to fire departments across the Commonwealth to improve firefighter safety.

“The department is extremely grateful for these funds that allow us to purchase equipment to ensure we can do our jobs more effectively,” said Chief Bradbury. “With these newly purchased items, we will be better able to serve the Newburyport community with swiftness and ease.”
