Town of Bridgewater Receives $84,995 in State Green Communities Funding for Energy Efficiency Projects

BRIDGEWATER — The Town of Bridgewater has been awarded $84,995 in Green Communities competitive grant funding from the Healey-Driscoll Administration to support energy efficiency and clean energy projects.

Bridgewater is one of 43 municipalities statewide to receive grant awards this round as part of more than $205 million distributed by the Department of Energy Resources (DOER) since 2010.

Since receiving its Green Communities designation, Bridgewater has received a total of $1,121,980.11 in grant funding.

Bridgewater’s grant will be allocated to three projects, including up to $75,000 for window replacements at the Bridgewater Public Library; $7,500 toward the replacement of a vehicle; and $2,495 to cover the cost of continuing education for the Facilities Manager to ensure best practices in facilities management and proactive strategies focused on preventative maintenance are utilized in managing the Town’s facilities.

“Bridgewater is committed to reducing energy use and cutting costs by investing in clean and sustainable municipal operations,” said Shane O’Brien, Bridgewater Town Planner. “This grant will help us make targeted improvements that benefit taxpayers and the environment.”

DOER expects the projects funded in this round to save municipalities more than $583,000 annually in energy costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,192 metric tons annually, and cut pollution equivalent to removing 259 gas-powered cars from the road.
