Kenneth Fong Once Again Tapped to Serve as Interim Chief of the Bedford Police Department

Retired Boston Police Captain, Also Served as Interim Chief in 2022

BEDFORD — The Town of Bedford, Town Manager Matthew J. Hanson, and the Bedford Police Department are pleased to announce that Kenneth Fong has agreed to serve as interim chief of police, following the retirement of Chief John C. Fisher on Jan. 2.

“We gratefully acknowledge Chief Fisher for his steady leadership and years of dedicated service to the Police Department and the Town,” Town Manager Hanson said. “While the Department is in transition, we are pleased to reintroduce Interim Chief Kenneth Fong serving as Interim Police Chief. Bedford’s commitment to strong community partnerships and quality public service remains unwavering.”

Chief Fong, of Carlisle, retired from the Boston Police Department with the rank of Captain in 2020 and served as Interim Chief in Bedford, following the 2022 retirement of Chief Robert Bongiorno. In Boston, Chief Fong last served as captain of District A-1, overseeing 175 officers and civilians. He has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Western New England College and has undergone high-level training with the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, Suffolk University Sawyer Business School, and FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA).

“I am thrilled to return to Bedford as its interim chief,” Chief Fong said. “Bedford is a wonderful place to work, live and visit, and I look forward to working with the members of the Bedford Police Department and our citizens as Bedford transitions to a new permanent chief of police.”

The Town of Bedford is engaging in an assessment center process to fill the chief’s position, with more information expected in the coming weeks and months.
