STOUGHTON — Chief Donna McNamara reports that the Stoughton Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday morning that caused a fire at a gas station pump.
On Wednesday, Dec. 17, at about 5:57 a.m., Stoughton Police responded to a gas station at 140 Sharon St., for reports of a motor vehicle crash with one vehicle having crashed into a gas pump.
Through an initial investigation, police determined that three vehicles were involved in a crash on Sharon Street. As a result of the crash, one of the vehicles lost control and went over the curb into the parking lot of the gas station, crashing into one of the pumps and catching fire.
The gas pump’s fire suppression system activated and controlled some of the fire. The Stoughton Fire Department then arrived on scene and was able to quickly get the rest of the fire under control.
Three vehicle occupants were transported to area hospitals with injuries not believed to be serious. Five total occupants were involved in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the pump was the lone occupant and was not transported. The second involved vehicle’s driver was transported. The third vehicle involved had two passengers in addition to the driver; two of those occupants were transported.
Sharon Street was briefly closed during the incident but has since reopened.
Stoughton Police are actively investigating this incident.
Canton Police and Sharon Police and Fire provided assistance on scene.
