CANTON — Interim Chief Joseph Perkins reports that the Canton Police Department arrested a Jamaica Plain man on breaking and entering and drug charges after he was found to be squatting in a vacant home.
LUIS ERNESTO NUNEZ NUNEZ, AGE 29, of JAMAICA PLAIN, was arrested and charged with:
- Trafficking in 10 Grams or More of Fentanyl
- Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
- Malicious Destruction of Property Over $1,200
- Breaking and Entering with Intent to Commit a Misdemeanor
On Tuesday, Sept. 23, at approximately 12:40 p.m., Canton Police responded to Green Street for a report of a man found squatting in a vacant house.
A search determined the structure had been damaged, including a broken glass pane on the front door, storm doors ripped from the hinges, and screen windows and storm panels removed.
NUNEZ NUNEZ was arrested at that time for the break-in.
During a search of his vehicle, officers located a bag in the center console that contained several smaller glassine bags containing a powdery substance. The vehicle was then towed to the Canton Police station for further investigation.
The investigation revealed that bags found in the vehicle contained about 57 grams of Fentanyl and 4 grams of cocaine.
NUNEZ NUNEZ was arraigned on Wednesday in Stoughton District Court and held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Monday, Sept. 29.
“Fentanyl and other dangerous drugs continue to devastate families and communities across our region,” said Interim Chief Perkins. “Our Department is committed to getting these drugs off the street and minimizing the serious risks these substances pose.”
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
