GEORGETOWN — Chief Matt McKay reports that the Georgetown Fire Department responded to and quickly extinguished a fire at a home on Amburg Street on Thursday.

On Thursday, Aug. 21, at about 11:57 a.m., firefighters responded to 11 Amburg St. for a report of a fire outside the home. The first-arriving crew observed heavy smoke coming from the eaves and gable areas of the single-family home.

Crews circled the home and discovered a fire in the deck area that had extended to the home. Companies stretched lines to the rear of the home and began an aggressive attack.

The fire was determined knocked down at 12:20 p.m., and under control by 12:50 p.m.

The home suffered significant damage. A pet dog was found deceased.

“A juvenile who was home at the time called 9-1-1 immediately, which made all the difference. Every second counts,” Chief McKay said. “Our crews were able to contain the damage and avoid a far worse outcome.”

Chief McKay and the Georgetown Fire Department thank the Boxford, Groveland, Newbury, and Rowley Fire Departments, and Rehab Five and Atlantic Ambulance for providing mutual aid at the scene, as well as the Ipswich and Newburyport Fire Departments for covering the Georgetown station.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Georgetown Fire and Police Departments, and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
