Ludlow Police Chief Daniel Valadas Announces Retirement After 35 Years of Service

LUDLOW — The Ludlow Police Department is pleased to announce the retirement of Chief Daniel Valadas following 35 years of dedicated service to the Town of Ludlow. He will officially retire on Aug. 8.

Chief Valadas joined the department as a Special Police Officer in 1990. Throughout his career, he has held numerous positions, including Bike Patrol Officer, Operations Lieutenant, Field Training Officer and Training Supervisor, Gang Intelligence Officer, EMT Supervisor, Dispatch Director, Emergency Management Liaison, K9 Supervisor, Civil Rights Officer, and more, ultimately rising to the rank of Chief in 2020.

He additionally served as a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) Staff and Drill Instructor at the Western Massachusetts Police Academy from 2007-2016, and is currently a Level III Instructor in Legal Update, Terrorism & Homeland Security, Drug Recognition & Investigations, Juvenile Issues and Gangs.   

Throughout his career, Chief Valadas has demonstrated a deep commitment to professional development and education, having completed the FBI-LEEDA Leadership Trilogy and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Active Shooter Training, and teaching as an Adjunct Professor and guest lecturer at his alma mater, Western New England University.

Chief Valadas also served in the United States Army Reserves as a Military Police Officer for 10 years, before being honorably discharged in 1998.  

He currently resides in Ludlow and looks forward to this next chapter in his life, spending time with his wife and four children.

Their dedication to service remains, and the residents of Ludlow are truly unmatched,” said Chief Valadas. “Ludlow will always remain a special place even though my time as Chief is done; this is still the community that I call home, where we raised our children. This exceptional group of dedicated police officers will continue to thrive, putting our community first each and every day. I wish them all the best and am thankful to serve beside them over the last three decades.”
