LENOX — Superintendent Dr. William Collins is pleased to share that Lenox Public Schools has been one of the few schools in Massachusetts selected to receive an entire year of cost-free guidance, support and resources from Day of AI.
Day of AI was born out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s RAISE, which stands for Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education.
Day of AI works with school districts around the globe to create artificial intelligence literacy programs for all school stakeholders, including students, teachers, administrators and families. It also trains and educates teachers on how to use AI and AI-enabled tools to support their work and ensures student safety by developing responsible and equitable AI policies in their school.
Lenox Public Schools will combine artificial intelligence training from the Day of AI partnership with support from other resources throughout the 2025-2026 school year. Curriculum highlights include:
- Hands-on, Accessible Curriculum: The partnership provides free “Creative Commons” lessons that cater to all levels and abilities K-12, including staff without technology backgrounds. Short modules (30-60 minutes) introduce fundamentals like “What Can AI Do?”, allowing exploration of both technical and societal impacts.
- Active Learning through Projects: Students engage in hands-on projects designing AI tools tied to climate, community or ethics, and tying in real-world issues, such as regional environmental challenges. Lenox students could create AI-driven community platforms to connect residents to local initiatives.
- Ethical Awareness and Digital Citizenship: There is a core focus on responsible AI: exploring bias, privacy, misinformation, deep fakes and the White House AI Bill of Rights, helping staff guide nuanced conversations. Curriculum aims to promote trust, critical thinking and evaluating source credibility, which is crucial for students in research and beyond.
- Teacher Professional Development: Staff workshops include AI literacy, curriculum alignment, policy implementation and safety practices.
- Global Connection and Student Voice: This partnership will link Lenox with a global network of 173 countries, offering cross-cultural exchanges and inspiration. Day of AI features student voices and projects, encouraging Lenox students to present and engage at local or online showcases.
- Local Adaptation and Policy Support: Day of AI offers tailored support for developing appropriate AI policies and family engagement, which is ideal for Lenox to build district-level frameworks. It also offers family activity toolkits to help extend AI literacy beyond the classroom, fostering community involvement.
“Responsible use of AI has become a prevalent issue at the forefront of school administrations across the nation. Our students are going to inherit a world vastly different than the one in which we grew up, where artificial intelligence plays a significant role,” said Superintendent Dr. Collins. “We are pleased to be partnering with Day of AI, so we are not forging this path alone. Day of AI is not a for-profit contractor with a product to sell; they exist to aid school districts in building the capacity necessary to make informed decisions about artificial intelligence.
“We hope to strike a balance that preserves aspects of our traditional education model that have served students well, but at the same time, does not ignore or turn away from the potential impact of the astounding technological advances occurring on a near-daily basis. This year of training will greatly benefit our administration, staff and students as we navigate a world with AI. School districts can either prepare for this technological wave or simply be inundated by it. We were thrilled to be one of the few Districts in the state to be selected for this partnership; I look forward to the resulting learning and professional development.”
