CANTON — Town Administrator Charles Doody and Finance Director Randy Scollins are proud to share that the Town of Canton has been recognized for the 19th consecutive year for excellence in municipal financial reporting and transparency.
The Town received its 19th straight Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), placing Canton among the most well-organized and transparent local government agencies in financial management. The most recent award was given for Canton’s Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
“We are proud to once again receive the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, marking the 19th consecutive year the Town has earned this prestigious recognition,” said Town Administrator Doody. “This ongoing achievement is a direct result of the consistent dedication and professionalism of our finance team and our audit partners. We are fully committed to transparency, accuracy, and accountability in financial reporting. We thank the GFOA for continuing to recognize our efforts year after year.”
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, representing a significant accomplishment by the Town of Canton.
The award honors municipalities that meet or exceed nationally recognized standards for financial reporting. These standards include demonstrating a spirit of full disclosure and presenting financial data in a way that encourages readers to engage with and understand the ACFR.
“I’m extremely proud of the continued hard work and professionalism of our finance staff, whose efforts have once again met the high standards set by the GFOA,” said Finance Director Scollins. “This recognition reflects our team’s commitment to transparency and clear communication in financial reporting. The Fiscal Year 2024 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, which earned this distinction, is available on the Finance Department’s homepage for anyone who wishes to review it.”
The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments in preparing comprehensive financial reports that promote transparency and full disclosure, while also recognizing individual governments that meet these goals.
