HANSON — The Hanson Police Department is pleased to announce that Michael Casey has officially begun his new role as Chief of Police today, following the retirement of Chief Michael Miksch.
Chief Casey assumed leadership of the Hanson Police Department on Tuesday, July 1, after being unanimously appointed by the Select Board earlier this year.
“I’m incredibly honored and humbled to serve as the Chief of Police in Hanson — a town that means so much to me,” said Chief Casey. “I want to sincerely thank Chief Miksch for his leadership, mentorship and unwavering dedication to both the department and the community over the past 12 years. It’s an honor to follow in his footsteps and continue the important work he’s done here in Hanson.”
Chief Casey is a 30-year veteran of the Hanson Police Department. He joined the department as an auxiliary officer in 1995 and became a patrolman in October 1996. He rose steadily through the ranks, serving as a shift commander, sergeant, lieutenant, and, most recently, deputy chief since 2020.
Throughout his career, Chief Casey has made significant contributions to the department, including founding the Motorcycle Unit in 1999, helping secure donations and funding for both that unit and the department’s first comfort dog, Ziva, and serving as the president of the Hanson Police Relief Association. He also serves as the Assistant Control Chief of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) Motorcycle Unit.
