MARION — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson and Principal Michael Devoll are pleased to announce that the works of students from the AP Art and Design and Honors Art III classes at Old Rochester Regional High School will be on display during the 14th annual Advanced Art Show at Uncle Jon’s Coffees from May 18 through June 8.
A reception is being held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on May 21 at the cafe, which is located at 356 Front St. in Marion.
“Creative, curious, and industrious — these words describe the talented group of student artists in the AP Art & Design and Honors Art III class at Old Rochester Regional High School,” said Kate Butler, art teacher at Old Rochester Regional High School. “Throughout the year, students engaged deeply with the artistic process, using inquiry to drive their work and seeking inspiration from their own interests, as well as renowned artists across history and contemporary practice.”
Butler said that the AP Art and Design students submitted works included in the Advanced Art Show to the College Board to earn college credits as part of the Advanced Placement program. Butler also said that all of the students involved in the Advanced Art Show “produced a cohesive body of work” that stands as a testament to their commitment to artistic exploration and expression.
“They explored a wide range of materials and concepts, pushing boundaries through experimentation and risk-taking,” Butler said. “Reflection and peer critiques played a vital role in their growth, helping them refine ideas and develop their voices as artists. These courses challenge our students both intellectually and creatively, demanding perseverance and adaptability. The creative process is rarely a straight path, and these students embraced its complexity — revising, reworking, and creating with dedication and resilience.”
The AP Art and Design class included the following students:
- Gio DeSouza
- Phoenix Ducharme
- Lily Hinds
- Owen Osterday
- Madison Spangler
- Tessa Winslow
The Honors Art III class included the following students:
- Kelsi Chick
- Eden Dupre
- Cy Huggins
- Devyn Southern
- Dayvie Zuckerman
“These talented students have worked hard all year, and this show is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their dedication, skill, and creativity,” said Principal Devoll. “The artistic abilities of our students at Old Rochester Regional High School are incredibly impressive. We hope you’ll all stop by and enjoy their work.”
“I’d like to congratulate all of our AP Art & Design and Honors Art III students, along with their teachers, who do such amazing, creative work,” said Superintendent Nelson. “We’re proud to offer high level art classes in our school district, preparing our students for college and beyond. Thank you to all of our arts teachers for helping to make all of this possible.”
