BEDFORD — Chief John Fisher shares that the Bedford Town Manager’s Office, Police Department, Fire Department, and Public Works Department have created a public service video highlighting pedestrian crosswalk safety.
Bedford has recently experienced an increase in the number of pedestrians struck by cars at marked crossings. The video informs drivers and pedestrians about ways they may travel safely at these crossings.
In the video, Chief Fisher, Director of Public Works David Manugian, Fire Chief Jim Bailey and Town Manager Matthew Hanson each speak to the community’s role in maintaining road safety.
The video also discusses how community members can share their safety concerns regarding the roadways and discusses the process for addressing their concerns. If a community member notices something concerning — a damaged crosswalk, obstructed roadways, vehicles driving dangerously, etc. — they should report it to the Police, Town or Department of Public Works, who will work together to determine how to best address the issue.
“We hope that this video will inform the community of how they can contribute to road safety, whether that be as a driver, pedestrian, or concerned community member, ” said Chief Fisher. “We encourage anyone who notices a concern within the community to reach out to the proper personnel, as we all play a vital role in ensuring our Town’s safety and security.”
The Department of Public Works may be reached at 781-275-7605. Additional contact information is available on the Town’s website, www.bedfordma.gov. In the event of an emergency, always dial 911.
