IPSWICH – The Town of Ipswich would like to invite the community to participate in the second annual Love Your Neighbors 5K walk/run.

The 5K will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m.

Event day registration will begin at 8:45 a.m. Participants should gather at Take-Out Terrace, 4 Union St.

The Love Your Neighbors 5K is a 3.1-mile walk or run meant to bring the Ipswich community and others together in the spirit of unity.

Each year, the event highlights a different event, group, or person who represents the spirit of equity, inclusion, and diversity.

This year, the event will honor and remember the Ipswich Millworkers Strike of 1913, where the workers of Ipswich Mill, most of whom were immigrants, unionized and went on a three-month strike in demand of a 20 percent wage increase and improved working conditions.

Throughout the event, participants will learn about the group of millworkers and explore the ways that their efforts have contributed to the cultural diversity of present-day Ipswich and how their story parallels some of what community members aspire to today.

Those who are interested can register to participate in the 5K here. The current registration fee is $30. Registration fees will be raised after Friday, Oct. 4.

Light refreshments from local companies will be provided after the race. The top three overall adult, youth male, and youth female runners will receive an award.

“We are eager to welcome this great event back into our community. This is an excellent opportunity to connect our town to its history in the spirit of inclusion, community and friendship.” said Town Manager Stephen Crane. “We highly encourage the community to attend. Participants can walk, run, push a stroller, etc. This is truly an event for anyone.”
