Bellingham Fire Department Reminds Residents of Annual Town Election on June 4, Shares Information on Proposed Budget

BELLINGHAM — Chief William Miller and the Bellingham Fire Department would like to share information with residents regarding the proposed budget ahead of the June 4 Annual Town Election.

BELLINGHAM — Chief William Miller and the Bellingham Fire Department would like to share information with residents regarding the proposed budget ahead of the June 4 Annual Town Election.

Polls are open at Bellingham High School, 60 Blackstone St. from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Town of Bellingham is seeking an override of Proposition 2 1/2 to fund additional paramedic staffing for the Fire Department.

Voters are being asked to consider a $750,000 override to allow the Department to add six paramedics to meet the Town’s increasing demand for services. Overall approval is contingent upon the question passing on June 4.

What does a “YES” vote mean?

A “YES” vote approves the tax increase to hire six additional paramedics to staff the ambulance.

What does a “NO” vote mean?

A “NO” vote means that the Department will maintain current staffing levels. As call volume continues to increase, it is likely that the Department will need to rely more heavily on mutual aid, ultimately resulting in delayed response times.
