PLAINVILLE — Chief Richard Ball reports that the Plainville Fire Department and its mutual aid partners responded to a two-alarm fire Monday at a Grove Street duplex.
Crews were notified at 5:39 p.m. Monday, March 25, about a fire at 1 Grove St., a duplex. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and heat coming from the building. Interior crews encountered heavy fire on the second floor and fire coming out of the back of the building.
Firefighters attacked from inside and outside. Their actions prevented the fire from spreading to the other half of the duplex, although that unit suffered smoke and water damage.
“We are fortunate that the work by our firefighters and those from other communities limited the spread of the fire,” Chief Ball said.
Eleven people on both sides of the duplex were displaced. Firefighters rescued a dog and many cats.
There were no injuries.
On-scene mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Bellingham, Foxborough, Mansfield, Norfolk, North Attleborough, Walpole and Wrentham, as well as Cumberland, R.I. Attleboro crews provided station coverage.
The fire remains under investigation by the Plainville Fire Department and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
